![]() The red gun barrel opening covers are doped fabric, and the dope covers the area around the fabric The exhaust is barely noticeable as the light gray stains ahead of the codes The dirty areas on the wings are from armorers rearming the guns The leading edge has been touched up to keep it smooth (no chipping!) The Dark Green areas fade to a more olive color The Dark Earth areas fade to a more tan color The cowl is hot, and airflow keeps it rather clean and smooth, the colors are very close to true, when fresh. It’s been reproduced in lots of places and the colors adjusted on many websites, but this should be a good guide for weathering an early Spitfire. ![]() This IWM photo is a period color photo that isn’t too far off. Green color = RAF Dark Green = XF-81 Dark Green is a perfect match. Beigy color = RAF Sky = XF-21 Sky (IMO too green and too dark, add some light gray to lighten, but ok straight)īrown color = RAF Dark Earth = not a good match in Tamiya and Tamiya’s recommended recipe results in tan color, whereas Dark Earth is a dark green-brown.
